About Transportation

Homer is located about 225 miles south of Anchorage in the Kenai Peninsula region. It is accessible by air or by road. The flight is about 45 minutes non-stop and is operated by Era Aviation. You can reach ERA Aviation online or by calling 1-800-866-8394.  If you choose the drive, you can expect a scenic trip lasting about four and a half hours non-stop.

The Alaska State Ferry system connects Homer to Seldovia and other Southcentral Alaskan ports.

Most of the major car rental companies can be found in Anchorage. There are four car rental companies in Homer. Jeeps 235-8640, Hertz (800) 654-3131 and Polar Car Rental (800) 876-6417 are located in the airport terminal. What supplies are provided?

As soon as you arrive, we'll provide you with a "starter pack" of supplies including such absolute necessities as bath soap, toilet and facial tissue, paper towels, dishwasher detergent, laundry detergent, and garbage bags. We want you to be able to begin enjoying your Alaskan getaway without having to worry about rushing to the store. You'd probably rather rush with your fishing pole instead!

Is there a grocery store nearby?

No problem there. Homer has a full-sized grocery store, as well as several smaller convenience stores.

Are there many restaurants in Homer?

Don't worry, there's definitely no shortage of restaurants here!  Homer boasts over 40 restaurants, offering every type of cuisine that the Alaskan traveler could possibly imagine.  Many of our restaurants offer casual dining atmosphere and the kinds of views that you just won't find anywhere else.  Please visit homeralaska.org for a complete listing of area restaurants.

What is included with the accommodations?

Since the unique accommodations we offer are individually owned, the "contents" of each unit will of course vary.  Most units are equipped with the usual kitchen and dining necessities (i.e., coffee maker, plates, flatware, pots, pans, serving dishes, glasses, etc.),  a clothes washer and dryer, bed linens, bath towels, and an ironing board --  as well as the aforementioned "starter kit" of supplies.  Daily house-cleaning service is not included, but we'll be glad to arrange it for you at a modest additional charge.

Can I bring my boat, snow machine, etc.?

Most of the parking areas at the vacation homes and apartments accomodate automobiles only. Trailers, motor homes and recreational vehicles and trailers are strictly prohibited. There are exceptions, so please call us prior to traveling. We'll make sure that your chosen accommodations will allow RV's to be parked on the premises.

Are bicycle rentals available in Homer?

Homer has a new, paved bike path beginning at the beautiful outlook point on Baycrest Hill and extending to the end of the Homer Spit.  Bicycles can be rented through Chain Reaction Sports at 907-235-0750.  Rollerblades, bicycles, and tot bike trailers can be rented through Homer Saw (phone 235-8406)

What kinds of recreational activities and entertainment does Homer offer?

There are so many to choose from...your biggest problem will be deciding which to do first! You'll be able to enjoy world class halibut and salmon fishing, hiking, berry picking, gallery shopping, bird watching, canoeing, kayaking, boating, bicycling, bear viewing, glacier trips, horseback riding, roller-bladding and a wonderful fitness facility with indoor an pool and gorgeous view.  Then of course there's the option of enjoying spectacular sunsets, beach walks, evenings at the theater, video rentals, grabbing a book from the public library, and much more.

Opportunities to learn about the freshwater and marine environments are offered by local organizations in Lower Cook Inlet at the Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies and the Pratt Museum, both nestled snuggly in beautiful Homer.

What if I need to receive mail, faxes, or e-mail while I'm on vacation?

Not a problem. There are a couple of businesses in Homer offering a place to check your e-mail, browse the internet, send or receive a fax, etc.

Can I bring my pet?

Sorry, but not without obtaining prior permission from Homer Property Management, even though we're pet lovers too, most homeowners do not allow pets. And remember, anyone caught sneaking a pet into a unit will be asked to leave, and will be subject to forfeiture of all payments. Please note that -- should your particular accommodations allow pets -- there will be a standard pet-charge assessed. Contact our office for more information.
